Bong Chul Seo
Assistant Professor
Dr. Bong-Chul Seo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T). He earned his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Iowa. Prior to joining Missouri S&T, he served for nearly a decade as a research scientist and adjunct faculty member at IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering at the University of Iowa. During that time, he contributed to the development of real-time weather and flood information systems, including the Iowa Flood Information System, and later led the development of the Missouri Water Information System at Missouri S&T. These systems enhance communication with the public and support timely decision-making for flood risk management and disaster prevention. His research focuses on quantitative precipitation estimation and forecasting using remote sensing data (weather radar and satellite) and their scale-dependent evaluation for hydrologic prediction. He is actively involved in national flood prediction and mitigation initiatives through the NOAA Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) and is currently working on evaluating the performance of the current and next-generation U.S. National Water Model.
