Hydrogeology; Geochemistry; Economic Geology
Martin Appold is a Professor in the Department of Geological Sciences. His research interests are in the physical and chemical behavior of subsurface fluids, employing numerical modeling, laboratory experiments, and analysis of mineral and fluid inclusion compositions. Particular interests are the origin of hydrothermal ore deposits and the geologic storage of subsurface fluids such as CO2. Current projects include studies of the partitioning of base metals between sedimentary brine, dolomite, and feldspar, and the precipitation of iron and rare earth elements from hydrothermal fluids associated with magmas.
