Welcome to Missouri Water Center!

Rebecca North

Associate Professor

Limnology, Aquatic Ecology, Biogeochemistry

Rebecca is an emerging researcher in aquatic ecology and biogeochemistry, with expertise on nutrient and phytoplankton dynamics in water bodies. She left the great white North and joined the School of Natural Resources at the University of Missouri as an Assistant Professor of Water Quality in 2016. Her PhD in limnology was obtained at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada where she worked on eutrophication issues in the African and North American Great Lakes.

The Limnology Lab at Mizzou, led by Dr. Rebecca North, has deployed two water quality monitoring buoys in the middle of Bethel Lake (pictured below) and Marceline City Lake. The top of the buoy that is visible contains a weather station, and underneath the water are two sondes, one at the surface of the water, and the other at the bottom. They are continuously recording water temperature, dissolved oxygen concentrations, etc. and the data is fed to a live website available here: https://sites.google.com/view/limnologylab-northmizzou/water-quality-buoys?authuser=0
